How does it work?
Ionic Technology
The Revlon hairdryer boasts Ionic Technology. Traditional blowdryers blast hot air to dry the strands. However, ionic technology interacts with what is on the hair, resulting in a sleeker finish.
What’s the science behind it? Well, hair contains ions, which are positively charged when wet. This positive charge causes frizz which conventional blowdryers can intensify. Ionic blowdryers supply hair with negative ions which balance out these positive ones and seal the cuticle, making it lay nice and flat.
Not only does this combat frizz, but it keeps the strands hydrated by causing the water molecules to sink deep into the hair, locking in all the moisture.
Benefits
- Locks in moisture with the help of negative ions resulting in softer, smoother hair.
- Avoid heat damage as it uses less heat than standard dryers.
- Faster drying times. Breaks down water particles on the hair, which results in quicker evaporation, in turn speeding up the drying process.

Who is it for?
After sifting through rave reviews on youtube I was still doubtful about just how effective this would be. I mean can you blame me? Some things are all hype, but this one has some truth to it. Although, there are a few things you should know …
Revlon has marketed this as ‘ideal for medium to long hair’. Now on the length check scale, this roughly translates to chin length and longer. Follow this advice because if you have shorter hair, you may find it awkward to use.
How does it perform?
Quicker drying time?
The short answer – yes! I tested this on two hair textures: 4a/4b and 4c hair. Both heads of hair were thick, with densely packed strands – think Naptural85 and NICKYBNATURAL. Usually, a blowdrying session would take me a good hour from start to finish. With this, I was done in half the time! Definitely a bonus if you ask me.
How good are the results?
Will you get bone straight hair? No.
So, if you’re looking for a Brazilian blowout, you might want to skip this one. You do achieve completely dry hair from roots to ends, although you won’t achieve the same bone straight roots and ends that you would with a comb attachment dryer. Check out Naptural85’s review below for some handy tips and tricks. Skip to 5:34 to see it in action.
Useful features
Swivel Cord
The plug connects to a swivel cord at the base of the dryer, which provides uninterrupted 360 degree rotations. No more awkward angling to reach sections of hair as the dryer moves with you.
Flexible Bristles
The bristle brush has smooth rounded tips that are firm enough to manoeuvre through type 4 hair, but flexible enough to be gentle on the strands.
Top Tips
Does it work on all lengths?
Yes and no. After using this on ear and shoulder-length hair, I found it works best on the latter. Blowdrying short hair with this is frustrating. Not only is it even more difficult to get to the roots, but angling the brush for maximum coverage isn’t worth the hassle.
If you have hair that’s past neck length, she’s your gal! For the best experience, detangle and section hair first, then use it lengthways on the highest heat setting. Hold it in one section for a few seconds then move it along the length of the hair. Of course, this is all after applying a heat protectant of your choice – we shall have no heat damage over here!
What’s the best setting?
After multiple uses, I’ve found the highest heat setting to be most practical. It dries the hair quicker and reduces the number of passes you need. With the ionic technology and heat protectant, you don’t have to worry about heat damage.
Does it get to the roots?
This is what all the girls want to know. In short, not as effectively as a traditional dryer with a comb attachment would. However, angling it slightly at the roots and working in smaller sections, will give you better access.
Do I have to detangle?
Yes, you do! It is a brush, but let’s not get carried away it’s no detangler. Now on straight hair or a looser curl pattern you could probably get away with it, but on type 4 hair, you want to go in on pre-sectioned and detangled hair.
Pro’s and Con’s
Final Thoughts
The Revlon Blowdryer has become a staple tool in my wash day arsenal. Initially, I didn’t think it would, but the PRO’s far outweigh the CON’s. Like many type 4 girls out there, I have a thirsty head of hair and she needs as much help as she can get retaining moisture. After returning from a spell of air-drying, this is the first blowdryer to leave my hair feeling dry without that awful parched feeling. For a dryer under £40.00, I can’t complain!
Not only am I able to keep hold of my moisture, but the ionic technology helps seal my cuticles, leaving me with soft, shiny and bouncy hair. The fluffiness was so good it left me with hand in hair syndrome, but it was so worth it!
